Grading of unfinished hardwood flooring is based on color, clarity and other natural characteristics.
Below is a listing of common grades for oak flooring and examples of each.
Clear - most uniform in color with minimal imperfection
Select - much like clear, but contains some natural characteristics
No. 1 Common - some natural characteristics such as knots, color variations and mineral streaking
No. 2 Common - more rustic in appearance with numerous color variations and natural characteristics
